Kayla Mae Olmstead

Kayla was born with Left-sided Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (LCDH). When she was born she was in the NICU for a total of 55 days. She reherniated two years later, had her repair surgery in May 2011 and spent 11 days in hospital recovering. She is a tough little girl and we are truly blessed to have her here.

Wellness Check Up

Kayla had her 9 month wellness check up today.  This is how the apt began.

It was about 8 degrees when we left for her apt so I had to dress her in something warm.  This was the first time she had her fleece body suit on, one her cousin gave to her (thanks Amanda we def needed this!!!)  but Kayla absolutely hated it!! As soon as I sat her up in it, she started grunting and making very ugly faces at me and Grandma... it was so cute and all I could do was laugh at her.  I'm a mean mommy!! So finally we got to our apt just on time and we waited for an hour before we got to see her ped...However, our ped totally sits down and talks to you, listens to you, tells stories of her own to make you more at ease... she is very personable.. just doesn't know too much about CDH. But she is very smart!  She let me ask my million questions (one including the recall on the h1n1- which Kayla's was not on the list)!  She went through the list of what K was doing and not doing- pretty much K is on schedule with everything except the talking part.. she doesn't say "da", "ba"... things like that.  She just makes lots of noises.. silly ones! So we are and have been trying to get her to say the things she is supposed to be saying.. hope she does it soon!

Kayla does the army crawl now.. and has even crawled to me when I put my arms out! So stinkin cute! She now waves, when I hold her arm out, then she will flap her little fingers up and down, and she can clap!  She doesn't get her hands together to make a noise, but she brings her hands together repeatedly like a clap.   She is doing well I think. :) We just have to work on that talking thing.

Our ped said she sounded great on both lungs, tummy felt good (and she squeezeddddddd!)  She is in the 25th-50th percentile for height and weight as she has always been (17lbs 6oz and 27 and some for length) but her head is in the 75th percentile.. which that has always been too.. dang daddy for his big head! lol She also got her second h1n1 today so she is all protected now. She cries any time the nurse comes in the room- and then when she sees our ped with the nurse she cries.. she knows! Poor girl!

Aside from a huge puke that drenched Grandma today she is doing well.  And I think that puke was dr visit related.  So much crying at the visit, missed a nap, missed a feeding, got a shot- too much I think.. that she ate a lot and then chucked it all out.  She is fine now- and pretty much has been since she barfed. :)

Hope all are well- I know this was long- sorry!! :) Here are some cute pics of her... :)

Kayla right before we left for apt! :)

Such a happy girl...

She LOVES it when Daddy vacuums!

This is as far as she gets to real crawling (hands and knees) then the butt flops down and she army crawls!

Got a beautiful Christmas card from Patty and Vince and Kayla was reading their lovely note :)

Reading again- she loves it! haha

FINALLY she loves her puffs and those cheesy puffs things..
